So last Sunday we went to mission Cafe Gratitude before house hunting (Look at us we are grown ups!). We go there occasionally to change things up, NOT give our money to the man for the one time a month, Cafe Gratitude is a weird little place that's serves raw, uncooked meals (slightly heated sometimes) where the food is from space .... and possibly some of the staff.
Without explaining the whole back story behind Grattitude: It's a cult, they serve raw ("live") food, they're weird, they serve dishes like I AM GRACEFUL (quinoa and pesto - Steamed quinoa with fresh hemp seed pesto, tomatoes, and sprouts.) or I AM PASSIONATE marinara pizza (Rich sun dried tomato marinara sauce, olive tapenade and fresh basil.) But it's never like the real thing. No bread, no dairy. A lot of hemp, No brand name clothes. You get the picture.
So, with all the bitching Tim why do you go there? Because the one thing I could rely on whenever I went there is that I always got a good amount of pretty healthy food for a decent price. And some of the stuff is VERY creative and not half bad. But they seriously stiffed me on the portion last time. They have been cutting back on portion size for the last 9 months or so. And it finally hit a limit with me. Maybe the cult biz is in a slump, I don't know. But they better get with program or I won't be giving them my hard earned Hearst dollars so they can put some young cult punk through cult college.
Oh, the other thing that annoyed me was that whenever it was someones birthday, and there were like three, they would play "Birthday" by the Beatles, and the entire staff would sing joyously. This is when my palms are drooling, and praying for a handgun. The angry heat from eve's hands were practically burning a hole in the real estate section she was holding. This part was about the only thing they had in common with other restaurants. But these weren't embarrassed teenagers working Chevy's, being forced out onto the floor by their managers. These were willing adults, possibly from space mind you. But still... relative adults. They sang with such truth and zeal, and the intensity behind their vacuous smiles was a little frightening.
